Digital Hub Africa: Building a Custom Editorial Platform Covering Tech, AI, and Digital Skills Across Africa
Digital Hub Africa is an editorial platform built to help Africans learn, work, and build with technology. Rexta Technologies designed and developed the platform as a complete digital magazine covering six content verticals: technology and AI, digital skills, remote work and freelancing, business and entrepreneurship, income opportunities, and international perspectives. The platform combines a fast-loading reader experience with a comprehensive admin panel for managing content, subscriptions, and the full publication workflow from draft to published article.

Challenges
African readers often browse on mobile devices with limited data, so every page had to load fast and remain readable in constrained network conditions.
The platform needed to serve two very different audiences at once: general readers discovering articles, and editorial staff creating, editing, and managing content.
A growing library across six distinct categories needed a clean taxonomy and a reliable search experience so readers could find what was relevant to them.
Subscriber management, ad monetisation and SEO all needed to work together without any one undermining the others.
The editorial team needed a role system that gave senior admins full platform control while scoping editor access to their own content only.
Ad revenue required Google AdSense integration alongside ad blocker detection that handled blocked ads without alienating the reader.
Our Approach
We built the platform on a modern TypeScript stack with the Next.js App Router and ISR-powered delivery, so every article page is fast, crawlable, and always fresh.
A TipTap-based rich text editor was built into the admin panel for article creation, supporting syntax-highlighted code blocks, images, links, and formatted text.
The admin panel was structured with separate modules for posts, categories, tags, authors, subscribers, contacts, users, activity logs, and site settings.
A role system was implemented with two levels, separating full platform control from scoped editorial access, with each scope enforced at the API layer.
Authentication uses JWT tokens in httpOnly cookies bound to a monotonic token version, so any permission or password change immediately invalidates older sessions.
Newsletter subscriptions with approval and status management, post reactions, author profile pages, dynamic sitemap generation, and structured SEO metadata were all built in from the first release.
Google AdSense was configured alongside a self-hosted ad blocker detection system that prompts readers rather than silently losing impressions.
Results
Digital Hub Africa launched as a complete editorial platform covering six content verticals for African technology readers.
The admin team can publish, edit, archive, and track all content through a full-featured CMS with an integrated rich text editor and image management.
Readers can explore articles by category, tag, and author, subscribe to the newsletter, react to posts, and use full-text search.
Every article page is ISR-delivered with structured SEO metadata, giving the platform a strong organic search foundation from day one.
Google AdSense and ad blocker detection are live, creating a monetisation foundation that grows with the platform's audience.
